Javiera is an architect that focuses on community engagement and research. Prior to moving to London, she worked in Chile for Santiago’s Municipality and national charity TECHO, delivering community-driven public realm and architectural projects. She has self-directed various initiatives in the UK, Spain. Her project ‘Traces’ explored new participatory processes to include young people into urban design debates and was awarded the 2019 CSM Making&Writing Prize and Honourable Mention in TRANSFER Architecture Award 2019.

 

She has consulted for the NHS, co-designing mental health environments for St.Pancras Hospital while collaborating with the Bartlett Real Estate Institute. She is currently Knowledge Exchange Facilitator for Erasmus+ and UAL guiding international students on social inclusion in regeneration projects in the UK, Denmark and Poland.

 

Her work explores innovative urban pedagogy creating spaces, methods and tools for non-built environment practitioners to be actively part of urban processes related to transformations of our neighbourhoods and cities.
